I found myself in awe of how versatile Figma is, how it initially became apparent to me that it could be used not only as a platform for product design but also as a sketchbook, a middle ground for collaboration, a whiteboard for education, and many other possibilities.

Layers and Assets

In order to properly animate the sketches for "pochita," I arranged each vector object, shape, and line in the right groups before classifying the frames according to their starting and finishing positions. The areas of pochita's eye, chainsaw, and mouth have been designated as plates that will stay static during the animation.

A total of 4 variants were used for pochita

Interaction Settings

In order to properly prototype the 4 variants, a combination of after delay (100ms), the change to selection, and instant animation were favored over other options.

Takeaways!

This project allowed me to become acquainted with basic animation principles while also repurposing an already established feature into something less conventional. Because I was scared by the process, animation felt like something to admire from a distance, but by taking the initial step with this project, I've unlocked a new medium that I'm excited to continue exploring.

Due to time constraints, this project had to be drastically scaled down, but I intend to create a full-length animation using a mix of home-brewed and well-known characters such as pochita. Continued development will focus on backgrounds or environments; it will be interesting to see how different prototype settings can immerse users into the animation.
